Luxembourg is an important financial, industrial and political centre and is regarded as a safe and secure place to visit. Consequently business tourism is important to the Grand Duchy and the capital city has excellent conference facilities. Luxembourg is a parliamentary representative democracy with a constitutional monarchy, ruled by a Grand Duke. It is the worlds only remaining sovereign Grand Duchy. Luxembourg is a global financial hub, and the sophisticated banking sector is well capitalized and competitive. Financial and banking regulations are transparent and effective.

Luxembourg is a party to the Schengen agreement. The passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay. Luxembourg is a constitutional monarchy. It is called a grand duchy because the ruler is a grand duke or grand duchess a sovereign of slightly lower rank than a king or queen. Luxembourg is such a lovely city.

Luxembourg is famous for their world-class barbeques and wines. However, Luxembourg does not export wine since, according to the Luxembourgeois people, they " keep the good stuff for themselves and export the bad stuff ". Luxembourg is one of the world's most industrialised countries and has the highest standard of living in the EU. The GNP per capita is among the highest in the world, USD 66,727 in 2005. Luxembourg is the only country that is ruled by a Grand Duke. The country is a trilingual country with French, German and Luxembourgish as the official languages.

Luxembourg is situated geographically in the heart of Europe and allows easy travel to all neighbouring countries. The city itself with its picturesque old-town is a World Heritage to which the architecture of the Kirchberg with the European institutions, Congress facilities and Museums is a modern counterpart.

Luxembourg is a founding member of the European Union, NATO, the United Nations, Benelux, and the Western European Union, reflecting the political consensus in favour of economic, political, and military integration. The city of Luxembourg, the capital and largest city, is the seat of several institutions and agencies of the European Union. Luxembourg is issuing the biometric passport as of August 28, 2006. All other passport (Series B, C, F) issued before August 28, 2006 remain valid until their first expiration date but cannot be extended. Luxembourg is about 65 km to the far north and 40km wide. We stopped at a farmers market and they were giving away maps (mug shots of political candidates on the back) with the surrounding area which became helpful later on when we were not really sure if we were in Belgium or not. Luxembourg is a signatory to the Brussels Treaty providing for collective self defence between its members, a NATO member and a founding member of the Council of Europe.

Luxembourg is a major player in the fund industry. Many thousands of people commute from neighbouring Belgium, France ( Les frontaliers ) and Germany on week days, considerably swelling the population of the capital city.
